Nutrition and self-sustainability are keys to the health of our kids and the Aidchild organisation itself. Through our fruit and vegetable gardens, our poultry farm, and our goat farm, we are able to raise our entire menu, and to generate extra income. That is, we eat what we raise, and sell the excess at the local market to pay for what we cannot grow ourselves. (Click here to see what we eat.)

Aidchild’s Poultry Farm Established by a grant from The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), our poultry farm produces more than eight thousand (8,000) eggs per month! Every morning and evening, kids and staff collect the eggs for the day’s menu and market sales. Many children of the world are not afforded this essential source of protein and nutrition. We are so grateful for our chickens!

Aidchild’s Fruit and Vegetable Gardens: Uganda’s fertile soil and year-round growing season enable us to harvest so much. We regularly grow papayas, passion fruit, bananas, pineapples, mangos, cabbage, beans, egg plant, greens, and avocados. When possible, we also raise pumpkins, soy beans, cucumbers and lettuce.

Aidchild’s Goat Farm*
Thanks to a grant from AIDS Integrated Model District Programme (AIM), we have a small farm of thirty (30) goats. They produce two thousand, five hundred (2,500) litres of milk every month, providing a very essential vitamin source for our children, and a source of income for the project through sales to our village neighbors. We also raise kid-goats for sale—another source of income and of community development through their affordable sales to the community.
